I have two cats & they are both awesome. Their names are Jack (McCoy) & Miss Kincaid - Law & Order kitties. They are brother & sister & I have had them since they were kittens (they are eight now). I love them with all my heart & don’t know what I would do without them. (Yes, I am a crazy cat lady in training) Everyday I tell them how beautiful and/or handsome they are and that everybody loves them, “Everybody loves a good kitty” is one my favorite sayings.

& here they are a couple of years ago:

     As mentioned above, I love these cats! But recently, lets say the past 6-8 months, Miss Kincaid has been pissing & poopin on my bathroom rugs and/or the floor right outside the bathroom, which is carpeted.”WTF girl, why do you hate your Mom?” I ask her all the time, to which she replies with a high pitched “meoowww”. At first I  thought it was just because the hubs wasn’t doing his duty of cleaning out their litter, which he wasn’t. So after some gentle harassment, my husband started cleaning out the litter every other day, if not every day. Did the piss war end? NOOOO. She continues to pee & poop on that one freaking spot right outside of the bathroom numerous times a day. We will pick the poop up, flush it & come back an hour later, more poo, more pee.

     I have been sick for approximately the same time frame, probably longer, I can’t keep track of how long I’ve felt shitty. I recently started feeling better, so yesterday I took a half day at work - mental health day (I needed it) - & went to the dollar store to purchase some foaming carpet cleaner, a scrubbing instrument, lemon dish soap. Got home & got down to business. So I foam the shit out of the piss spot, which has now become hard as a rock & start scrubbing it. I seem to be doing a good job, but for some reason no matter how much I scrub, she keeps coming back. (This may have something to do with the fact that Miss Kincaid happens to love the smell of bleach & other cleaning products).

      I then had an idea. I have been wanting to steam clean that spot forever, but do not have a steam cleaner nor do I feel like going to Price Chopper to rent one. So I google “how to steam clean my carpet with an iron” & to my delight there was a website telling me exactly what to do. Why I didn’t think of this sooner, I don’t know!

     So I spent about an hour applying foam, scrubbing, adding boiling water, scrubbing with the lemon dish soap then moved onto the steaming approach. & it worked! It smelled freaking terrible, I don’t know how I didn’t pass out, but it got a lot of the piss smell & stains out & the carpet is no longer hard as a rock. So I did this on repeat for another hour or so. I decide I’ve done enough for the day, so I leave it be. I fucking go back less than an hour later & what do I see to my not-so-surprise? I pool of cat piss on the carpet right next to the spot I had been cleaning.

Does ANYBODY know the answer to the following questions:

Why is my cat doing this?

How can I get her to stop?

Any further suggestions on cleaning methods for the carpet?
